How to view and strip out location data before sharing a photo

There are times when sharing photos to social media that you would prefer to also not share the photo location data embedded in them. For this situation, there is a great photo utility app called Exif Viewer to strip out the photo metadata.

Exif Viewer allows you to view the EXIF data that is recorded by the iPhone when it takes a picture. The settings in Exif Viewer allow you to manage and reorder the EXIF data that is shown. You can then use Exif Viewer from right within the Photos app. First select the picture and click on the Share button.
Choose Photos Share Button Picture
Next choose Exif Viewer from the bottom Activities row. You may need to scroll to the end of the row, choose More, and turn it on to see it. Items in the list can also be reordered to move them up to the front of the list.
Choose Exif Viewer Picture
In the window that opens, Exif Viewer will show all of the photo metadata. One nice feature of Exif Viewer is that is has a small map view to show the photo location in addition to the GPS coordinates. To remove the EXIF medadata, click on the Share button.
