How to AirPlay audio to a Sonos Play 1

I like streaming music on my Sonos Play:1, but I wish that I could Airplay podcasts from my iPhone or iPad to it. Sonos just announced that the Play:1 will not support AirPlay 2 when it comes out (unlike the newer Sonos One which will). The solution is to run a utility on the Mac called AudioBridge.

After starting AudioBridge, it runs as a Mac menu bar app. You are able to turn AudioBridge on or off from the menu bar or choose the Sonos that it makes available for AirPlay.

AudioBridge Preference Picture
In the Preferences, you can choose if you want AudioBridge to run every time you log in. If you have more than one Sonos, you can select which speakers are available in the menu bar. However, at this time, AudioBridge does not support groups of speakers streaming together.

When AudioBridge is running, my Sonos Play:1 shows up in the AirPlay menu on my iPhone or iPad. I like that the AudioBridge utility adds a feature I wanted in the Sonos Play:1.

The app allows for a short free trial period so that you can make sure it works with your setup before purchasing the software.
